About the Philodendron Melanochrysum Variegated
Philodendron Melanochrysum Variegated is a truly stunning collector’s plant, loved for its velvety foliage and rare variegation. The leaves develop a rich, deep green colour with a soft velvet texture, contrasted by striking lighter variegated sections that can appear in shades of cream, lime or soft yellow.
As the plant matures, the leaves become longer and more elongated, developing the classic dramatic Melanochrysum shape with beautiful contrast between the dark foliage and pale veins. Its elegant growth habit and rare variegation make it highly sought after by collectors.
This plant is currently growing in a perlite and stratum mix in a controlled environment of 100% humidity at temperatures of around 18°C at night and up to 23°C while it develops its own root system. Root development is expected to take approximately 4 weeks, after which the acclimatisation process will begin.
This listing allows you to secure this exact plant now while it continues to establish.
Plants will only be dispatched once they have a strong, visible root system and are fully acclimatised to normal indoor conditions.
If you choose to wait until full acclimatisation, your plant will be nurtured specifically for a home-to-home environment. These plants are not grown in glasshouses and immediately shipped out after travelling long distances. Instead, they are given time to settle, grow new roots and adjust to normal indoor conditions before leaving me. You’ll also be able to see the established root system before dispatch, so there are no hidden surprises from stressed or rotting plants. This greatly reduces transport shock and helps your plant transition more smoothly into your home.
Basic care guidance once home
Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can damage the delicate variegated areas.
Water
Keep the growing mix lightly moist but never soggy. Allow slight drying at the top between watering.
Humidity
This plant appreciates warmth and higher humidity while establishing.
Feeding
Begin feeding lightly once established, using a weak, diluted feed during active growth.
As with all young plants, natural variation in growth and variegation should be expected as the plant matures.
When it is time to ship, your plant will be carefully packed in a thermal box with a heat pack to ensure it arrives safely and in good condition.
Please note
Tissue culture plants develop at their own pace. Timelines depend on healthy root growth, so some plants may be ready sooner while others may take a little longer. I’ll keep you updated as your plant progresses, and if any delays occur, you’ll always be given options. Thank you for your patience while your plant gets the best possible start.
