Our Story 🌿
Hello & welcome 🌿
I’m Jo, the person behind Chop n Grow — a small home-run plant business based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Although most days it feels like there are considerably more plants running the place than people!
My love of houseplants really took hold during Covid. What started as a hobby at home very quickly became a bit of an obsession, and in 2022 Chop n Grow grew from that hobby into a little home-run business.
And it really is still run from home. There are plants growing and acclimatising, orders being packed, boxes appearing everywhere, family life carrying on around it all, and Coco and Cookie, my two Cockapoos, generally supervising proceedings. It can be organised chaos at times, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
More than just selling plants 💚
From the beginning, I’ve wanted Chop n Grow to be somewhere you can find plants that are a little different without unusual automatically meaning unaffordable.
Over the years CnG has grown from plants into pots, substrates, plant care, grow lights and all sorts of useful planty bits — but finding beautiful and unusual plants is still the part I love most.
In 2026, tissue culture became a big part of CnG too. Rather than simply selling little plants in bags, I’ve loved growing and acclimatising them here, watching them develop and eventually being able to send established little plants off to their new homes.
Then came Chop n Grow Friends 🌿
In September 2022 I started the Chop n Grow Friends Facebook group. What began as somewhere for customers and fellow plant lovers to chat has grown into a friendly community of over 4,600 members.
People share their plants and setups, celebrate new leaves, ask for advice and generally enable one another to buy yet another plant they definitely didn’t need. 😂
Our Sunday Sales have become a big part of the group too. Most Sundays you’ll find a mixture of Going, Going, Gone bidding and Comment to Claim plants, with plenty of chat and usually a bit of chaos thrown in.
The group is something I’m incredibly proud of. Keeping it friendly, helpful and positive has always mattered to me, and many of the people who joined as customers have been around for years.
And we’re still growing… 🌱
Chop n Grow has changed enormously since those first few plants during Covid, and I’m sure it’ll keep changing. There are nearly always new plants arriving, something acclimatising behind the scenes, or another idea I’m itching to try.
But however much it grows, I want CnG to keep the personal feel it started with — a small home-run business, a friendly plant community and somewhere you can find something a little bit special.
Thanks for being part of it. 💚
