A 96-hour heat pack (like UniHeat) is a disposable warmer for shipping temperature-sensitive items (fish, plants, reptiles, etc.), activated by air, providing steady warmth for about 4 days, ideal for express shipping but may stop working in freezing temperatures. They contain iron powder, water, salt, charcoal, and vermiculite, generating heat through oxidation, and are environmentally friendly. Key info includes activation upon opening, slow temperature decay (around 100°F/38°C for most of its life), and that they don't guarantee against cold damage in extreme cold (below 32°F/0°C).

How They Work

Activation: Open the sealed package to expose the contents (iron powder, water, activated carbon, salt, vermiculite) to air, starting the oxidation process.

Heat Generation: The iron oxidizes (rusts), releasing heat.

Temperature Profile: They heat up quickly (peak in ~9 hrs), then maintain a steady, lower temperature (around 100°F/38°C) for most of their 96-hour life, designed to avoid overheating delicate cargo.

Key Features & Uses

Duration: Provides consistent heat for approximately 96 hours (4 days).

Applications: Transporting tropical fish, corals, reptiles, plants, flowers, and even some chemicals or medical supplies.

Environmental: Biodegradable and disposable with regular trash.

Reliability: Used by professionals for air, sea, and road transport.

Important Considerations

Freezing Temperatures: Heat packs can stop working if the ambient temperature inside the box drops below 32°F (0°C).

Shipping Speed: Best for priority/express shipments; not ideal for standard mail that takes longer.

Usage: Use with insulated boxes for best results; follow seller instructions when ordering with plants.
